Government has given top priority to provide protected drinking water to all other urban local bodies by strengthening the existing infrastructure and service levels. During last four years, 126 water supply schemes with an estimated cost of Rs. 2543 crores have been taken up which will add 1223 MLD of water thereby increasing the average water supply as per norms in urban areas by 2009-10.
Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase II
Government has taken expeditious action for completion of Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase II with an estimated cost of Rs.1082 crores , adding 90 MGD of water thereby enabling daily supply of water in the area of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Keeping in future needs, works on augmentation of 10 tmc of water to Hyderabad urban agglomeration with an estimated cost of Rs. 3375.00 crores have already started.
Moulana Abdul Kalam Hyderabad Sujala Sravanthi
A perspective plan was prepared initially for tapping 10 TMC of Godavari water and the detailed project report (DPR) for Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase-I envisaged, from Pranahita Chevella as source costing to Rs.3,375 crores, has been cleared in the 6th SLSC meeting chaired by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Prasdesh on 31st January, 2008. The project has been posed to JNNURM, GOI for funding. The project (named as "Moulana Abdul Kalam Hyderabad Sujala Sravanthi') implementation would be within 30 months. Tenders on EPC contracts system were invited and the works are allotted to the prospective agencies. The project is being taken in 3 packages. Agreements concluded and works have been started.
FOR URBAN POOR
Around 1,22,366 water supply connections at reduced cost of Rs.1200/- which were costing Rs.7000/- earlier (monthly installment of Rs.100/-) have been provided to urban poor.
Government have further reduced the donation from Rs.1200/- to Rs.200/- only vide G. O. Ms. No.515 M.A.U.D., (A1) Department, Dt:25-07-2008.
